Let's celebrate the collective, passionate longing
of a people fired for ten days by the happy legend
of a king who ruled with the magnificence of love
and gave away the land to keep a tryst with compassion
of a land blessed with nature's exploding radiance
flowers, songs of birds, plentiful harvest
flowing waters, buoyant play of boats in lakes
dancing maids, culinary delight in every home
the adornment of the body, dreams in every heart
living in the moment, the ecstasy of true, total love.
Let's celebrate our ardent longing for a new world of joy
for a world that now lives only in songs and stories
for homes where hearts don't bleed and sorrow isn’t the rule
for the end of the stupid reign of political violence and fraud
for a magic wand that can wipe away the cruelty of power
for the breaking of every dawn with children going about
collecting flowers and singing songs and laughing aloud
for the splendour of women worshiping earth with flowers
for the melodious movement of girls with rhythm and rhyme
for the green divinity of trees, smiling rice fields and happy earth.
